Quilting Getaway

A few weeks ago, our quilt group had a two-day getaway at Barbara's cabin, complete with some great cows to keep us company...

We worked and ate and visited and had a great time. In equal amounts.

This WIP is Barbara's zigzag. I didn't write down the beautiful line of fabric she used for this- it had a 40's tropical vibe to it to me. Barbara used half square triangles to create the zigs and zags...

And Kareena used a different method for hers to avoid triangles, only to have to add them on the border anyway.

Nan also used the rectangle method on her quilt that we all said felt like 1975...in a good way!

She's the fastest stitcher I know! So naturally, she got TWO scrappy tops made, both using the same brick blocks for twin quilts with their own personalities.

Mine is decidedly NOT a fall quilt! I've been collecting polka dot fabrics for a while now. I had a couple of ideas on how I wanted to use them, but while working on another idea, I interrupted myself with this. Just blocks of dots with some black and white striped sashing.

(See that outside border on the right? When I got home I took that off and fixed it so the stripe was continuous.) I've added another couple of borders too...Will take a picture at our next quilt group meeting.

Lori made this adorable bag. She was working on  a zig zag quilt too- but packed it all up before I got a photo! (And Denise did the same thing-she worked on a cute black and white quilt and a border for a Halloween embroidery...they were way too organized and I was not on top of my photographer job!)

Marsha made a paper pieced teacup, but Blogger is fighting with me and will only load the photo sideways. You'll just have to trust me it's cute!
And Janet spent her day with us cutting LOTS of red fabric, getting ready for some scrappy stars.

A retreat with our group would not be complete without a circle quilt- this one's by Nan. (Marsha hand stitched the binding for her!)

Thanks again to Barbara for her hospitality.

Bold Expressions at BAM

This summer, my husband and I took our grand kids to the Bellevue Arts Museum.

The Grands enjoyed the design wall...

...And we all loved the bold artwork.
